My roots are in Kentucky and I am quite the kentucky girl when you see all the poems, catchy stuff, silly posters all written about Kentucky! I am them :) I have the accent, I love blue, and I sometimes go barefoot! I was born in Louisville, KY but my family is from Central, KY. My parents moved us to Indiana in elementary school, but we always go back to Kentucky!
Starting last weekend the Derby Festival kicked off, with thunder over louisville. This weekend is the marathon, and balloon race. Next week is the parade, boat race, and lead up to the fastest 2 minutes in sports! You have a week to figure out what that all means ;) It is truly the best two weeks to live in the Louisville, Ky area and be from the state of Kentucky! All the flowers are in bloom, the big hats our out, the bourbon is flowing and the parties are beginning! We like to say that you can wear WHITE after Derby :) If you are from there, you don’t get married, have a baby, graduate, or throw any parties other than derby related! You start planning your attire in January and hope and pray that the tailor, hat maker, hairdresser, and makeup artist all can fit you in before the 1st weekend in May!
This Kentucky Girl misses her home more than anything this time of year, and maybe next year after I am married, I will take my new husband and some friends off on a journey to KY for the Derby! It is a one time thing that everyone should experience! Mint Julep’s flowing (I will be making my own homemade one this year :)), the Derby pie is being eaten, the early morning delicious country ham breakfast are being served, and horse names such as (Liaison, Dullahan, and I’ll have another) are being thrown around on the news! Everyone is taking the time to figure out how and how much their bets should be placed, and some still planning their outfits!
To finish I am a Kentucky Girl! I love my home, my state, my sports, my colors, my family! I am a Kentucky Girl!
thanks to my mom for posting this on pinterest today and I decided to take my inner design self and recreated :)
