Picking Horses for the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks! Last year I did a post about being a Kentucky Girl! Well this week is partly why :) If there are 2 weeks out of the year that I am most homesick it is the Kentucky Derby Festival! Today is Oaks Day at home! The Pink out day at Churchill Downs (*side note – if you are ever in Louisville you must do the Downs Tour), and the race with the Fillies (winning Lillies). It is also the day you get off school, work, life and get dressed up in your best spring outfit, and large hat! Or throw a I am not at work, because it is Oaks Day party at home! The Oaks Post time is at 5:49pm today! I hope to catch it on tv! If you haven’t picked your horse you better get on it! You only have 7 hours to make that decision :) Follow along on the website for the Kentucky Oaks, for more information! You can pick them however you want (the color of their silks, the name of the horse, the odds, or just random :)) Here is a quick look at what you have to choose from! Some horses may be Scratched before Friday so GOOD LUCK!
I think I am going to go with Stellar Wind!!!!! Let me know your choice :)
Saturday (the first Saturday in May always) is what has been celebrated in Louisville for the past two weeks and 140 years, the Kentucky Derby (well known in the sports world as the fastest two minutes in sports)! Known in Louisville, as the day you get to see celebrities milling around, throw a big party, buy your outfit and attend, pack a cooler and your craziest friends and hit up the infield, or just sit on your own couch no one bothering you with a mint julep in hand! Saturday’s Post is at 6:24pm, but make sure you have the tv on about 4pm! You don’t want to miss pre-game of the day! I promise you will see some awesome hats, and outfits on the ladies for sure!!! The track actually opens at 8am with the first race post time of 10:30 am! The entire day culminating to the Run for the Roses! At about 545 -6 the best song in my mind (and was played at my wedding ;)) is My Old Kentucky Home, everyone will sing the horses will begin their walk to the paddock to get dressed, and jockey’s will begin their walk from the dressing room to mount on up upon the next Derby Winner! After you get the chills of listening to My Old Kentucky Home the horses will be paraded around the track for everyone to see :) They will do one lap and back to the gates for post! The Bugler will play the call to post and at that moment do not touch the remote because the race will be over quite fast! Cheer loudly, watch your drink (don’t spill it) and hope and pray that you are the winner of all the millions! Here is a quick look at what you have to pick from for Saturday! No Scratches yet! You can check out their post positions on the website if that matters to you!
I think I am picking Mr. Z.
Have a Happy DERBY weekend!!!!!
