Finnagan | Our Second Dog

Finnagan came to our house on an impulse. Dan decided to put in an application to Operation Paws for Homes when we saw Finnagan’s (then flit) little face on their Facebook page, and he looked like Dexter’s twin. We knew we were taking a leap of faith, but it was a leap of faith we had been thinking about for a while. Our minds were on what dexter would do, would he absolutely hate us? Well we passed the application, phone interview, and foster interview with flying colors. Next thing we knew we were in Alexandria, VA at one of their adoption events meeting Finnagan (then Flit) for the first time. We wandered down the street with dexter, pit in our stomach, hoping and praying we were making the right decision. Dexter and Flit met in an ally for the for the first time. We got to the talk to his foster about everything he had been through, the shots he had been given, and his behavior with his sister, and her dog. It all made sense then and there, and next thing we knew we were heading home in the car with dexter and flit (now Finnagan). After two days of calling him everything from, Gunnar, mr. pups, the puppy, lil man, etc etc. We decided on Finnagan, gave him a little irish since we adopted him the day before St. Patrick’s day. Finnagan is as healthy as a horse, up to date on shots, and only 11 weeks old. He still can’t have play dates or go on walks, and we have to be careful what he is around because of parvo.  We are growing and learning everyday, and as you will see in the photos and dexter is learning to what I would like to call love him gently.

We now have two amazing dogs who we are so lucky to have in our lives, and know they are lucky to be in our house safe from harm. Dexter coming from an abandoned mother with 7 pups who had them under a barn in Kentucky and then was killed. Now Finnagan who came from a high kill shelter in Loudon County, VA when his foster was thankfully in the right place at the right time to rescue him (and his sister) to find them deserving and safe homes. I would say we have two amazing blessings. I will forever adopt high kill situation dogs. I love my two so much!
